Look those happy children! They
are very busy in playing. They scream and shout
and celebrate their play time. But one boy about
7 years is sitting near a wooden pole at the veranda
of his muddy house. He sometimes laughs at them
and screams as they do. But the merry at his face
does n’t last long. It hides away and a
melancholy solitude fades over his innocent face.
Do You know him? He is Binu, who could only sit
and crawl while his friends play and celebrate
their childhood. Poor boy, the disease has taken
all his merries and happiness even from the time
of childhood. It is that strange disease Osteogenisis
Imperfectus made him a slave of the fate that
command him to crawl inside the four walls of
his house. It struck him hard and punished him
by breaking and creaking his bones all the times
he tried to unchain him. But it is found to be
impotent to slave his resourceful mind with unlimited
love towards words. Even amidst unfavourable conditions
he does n’t lose his will to dream. One
can see him gradually moving forward with the
help of his touching words, his poems ‘Unto
my Dreams’ - the way towards his ravishing
upraising dreams. ‘Unto my Dreams’
the premier publication of Binu which opens wide
to unlimited world of his loving dreams. ‘Unto
my Dreams’ is a compilation of 29 poems
and a short story by Binu. The book itself has
its English translation with a magnificent introduction

It is not just our Binu the slave of this dreadful
disease, but various victims all over the world.
But Binu is odd among them. He belongs to a poor
family who strive hard day by day for its existence.
Binu’s parents could not find sufficient
money even for food for their children. How can
they find money for his treatment? Poverty, one
of the major problems that India face even after
its 60 years of independence and celebrated five
year plans by various Govts. gives its evidences
and proofs all over the country. Binu’s
family can be pointed out one among them. Globalisation
has also made its destructive dance on them. His
father could not repay the debts to the bank and
hence the circumstances forced him to conclude
his life by committing suicide. But the ill experiences
Binu faced in his life flamed his creativity and
he copied it to the papers as words which shaped
in many brilliant poems.
It is nothing else but Binu and his life makes
his poems extraordinary. Binu is not only a 18
year old poet, but one who struggle hard for his
existence with the power of his words. He is the
living embodiment for the instance of survival.
While reading his words one can feel the tears
and agony he faces in his life. But it is still
rich with the hope and aspirations towards a life
of joy and comfort. The poems are so powerful
that it gives an opportunity to sense the mind
of have-nots and visualise the life which we,
the privileged, fail to look into or recognise
in the way of luxurious life.
Osteogenisis Imperfectus is a genetic disease
which creates critical situation of breaking the
bones even at a silly shake. Even though the disease
has limited his horizon to the area where he could
crawl and reach, he went on loving the words and
dreamt on a soothing life.
It was Dr. P.G Hari, a social committed doctor
noticed his skill to write and submitted one of
his poems ’njondypaiyyan’ at Tharjani
Magazine in Chintha.com. (http://www.chintha.com/node/2736).
Dr. Hari was so kind-hearted that he is giving
him complete treatment without cost since then.
K.G. Suraj, who came to know Binu through his
poem at www.chintha.com created a blog (http://www.binuvinte-kavithakal.
blogspot.com) of his poems in the e-network. It
is through this blog that the e-world came to
know about the young poet and his touching words
who himself being not at all accessible to this
e-world. By the creation of e-communities in the
major social networks such as Orkut and Koottam
had grown up the horizon of Binu and his dreams
irrespective of the language and colour. Dr. Deepa
Bijo Alexander and her friends coordinated the
activities related to, in the site, www.koottam.com.
They took deliberate effort to popularise the
community among their friends. ‘Thali’
one of the poems of Binu, published in thanalonline
attracted many readers. (http://thanalonline.
com/Issues/05/poems_05_ml.htm). The blogs and
the communities published for him changed the
way in his life. Many have extended their helping
hand to Binu whom they have not even seen once.
They showered their love towards him through their
letters and phone calls from far beyond. The financial
support they offered gave him hope for his education
and treatment. Binu is now residing at a hostel,
Karunyanivas at Manathavady. He is busy in learning
electronics, Xth A level exams and his treatment.
The death of his father, suicide of his elder
brother, expenses for his treatment, agricultural
debts… all had forced his family to leave
even their home land and migrated to Tamilnadu.
‘Unto his dreams’ is not now the
dream of Binu, But the dream of his friends all
over the world. It is simply amazing to know what
all these e-network friends had done for Binu.
They are towards their wish to publish Binu’s
works as ‘Unto my dreams both in Malayalam
and English. The creative composition among the
friends of the network made the work simple as
well as grand. English translation was done by
Babu Ramachandran and Padma K.P. Many of his poems
have been caricatured by Ms. Padma K. P and Sunil
Keezhara. The Introduction and letters have been
translated by Aswathy P. K.G Suraj compiled and
edited the poems.
Cover page design is done by Kamalalayam Rajan
Master. The cover page selection was done in a
different way. Four cover pages were designed
and submitted for online voting at www.orkut.com,
www.koottam.com, www.boolokakavitha.blogspot.com
and www.clsbooks.blogspot.com. Efforts are progressing
for organising the Publishing ceremony at Thiruvananthapuram
as Binu wishes. It is expected to conduct at the
end of May 2009.
Binu’s caricatures are being designed
by famous cartoonists Sajeev V. and Jithesh. Luna
Maria Frainsanchus, a Brazilian artist is in her
effort to translate Binu’s poems to Portuguese.
The efforts are being taken under the leadership
of N.T Ashley for the translation of his poems
to Arabic, Spanish, and German. Again the effort
went on to the production of a short film on him
by famous graphic novelist Renjith Kumar and the
crew (http://www.binuvinte-kavithakal.blogspot.com).
The audio vision of his poems has already been
created by Samvidhanandh and is available at http://ponjaar.blogspot.com.
The audio representation of its English translation
created by the students of Central Institute of
English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad is available
at (http://binusdream.blogspot.com ). It is sung
by Aswathy P, Music Directed by Sreevidya Surendan
and Gittar by Resham George. Poets Jinu, Samvidhavnandh,
and Rajeev N. Raman give the visualisation for
Binu Dreams. It is expected to publish the short
film and audio cassettes along with the Book ‘Unto
my dreams’. It is to be specially noticed
and appreciated that the efforts taken by all
the above is cost less and cannot be weighed by
cost too.
Publishing and Distribution is done by CLS Books,
Thaliparamba. The cost of the book is fixed as
Rs.50/-. Publishers are planning to distribute
the book as VPP. In the first edition 1000 books
will be published. There is option for early booking
of the book.
Thus Binu’s dreams will be exposed to
the world shortly. It is the lovely present of
his friends to him. It is the fulfilment of a
lovely dream of his friends who are tied together
with the knot of love. Let us wish that the dream
be taken up by the hearts of the world.
