Our gods
Joneve Mc Cormick

A civilization is destroyed
only when its gods are destroyed.
(E.M. Cioran)

In the West we're proud
that our gods are being destroyed;
we pander to those who do the job.
Some believe we're building
a brave new world,
some say we're in destroy mode,
godless and losing.

This shall pass too, we're told;
nothing new is happening;
internal wars and starvation
are coming to our enemies,
deep degradation, blame and shock.
We bow our heads
and say we are not the enemy,
we are good.

If history repeats itself
new gods will honor us
when we honor them,
honest builders again
with fewer laws and 'thou shalt nots';
and no one is supposed
to know or remember
how, where or when
the seeds of corruption
are sown.
