Few years ago, two of my well wisher friends misunderstood me and the man behind this crack was M.F Hussain. When I told that I didn’t find anything obscenity in Hussain’s nude Durga or Saraswatii paintings, Mr.Mahendra Kumar Dash, the English translator of my novel ‘The Dark Abode’ got irritated and when I told it would be better if Hussain could paint his mother as nude instead of made her covered with saree, one of my best friends, C.P.Aboobacker, the bilingual Malayalam poet did not find himself agreeable with me.
From TV Channels I came to know ( and could watch video clippings) that Bal Thackre and Raj Thackre mentioned Hussain as a great poet and so Ambica Soni also. It could be better if they all told it 5 years earlier.
I think if Hussain was a Hindu instead of Muslim, perhaps our BJP/RSS/Shiv Sena lead activists would not blame him for his grubby mind. I hope if Hussain would paint his mother nude as he painted Durga and Saraswati, he could prove his own artistic aesthetics.
Media channels declared him as Picasso of India. They forgot that Picasso had raised voice against General Franco, whereas Hussain lauded Mrs. Gandhi during Emergency.
What I appreciate more of Hussain’s activities is to construct an Art Gallery with the refusal paintings of his own by his ex- fiancé Maria.
I consider him as a true artist. I am very saddened to hear of his death and I pray for the peace of his soul.
