IN MEMORIAM SIZWE KONDILE*
Winston Mzikayise Mahola

They yanked him from the phone
With the skill of wolves
Bundled and brought nearer home
To bear his soul.
His cries filled the motherland
And we gasped appalled,
‘Are they still at it?
When will they stop?’
He was so close
Yet we didn’t know.

With needles of death
They punctured his life,
At Nkomati signed for the soul.
A gun salute
Sealed the deal with the devil.

They were laughing
When they set him ablaze
Making an offering to gods.
They were dancing
While they braaied alongside
Starting the fire from his ashes
Eating and drinking with joy
A satanic communion
To dare God.
They ate him and left no bone
That we may bury
That we may bury.

* Sizwe was kidnapped from Lesotho by the State Security forces. He was detained and tortured at Jeffrey’s Bay. He was injected with poison and then taken to Nkomati unconscious where he was shot and incinerated while the killers braaied.
