Shooting Star*
Joop Bersee

It preserves ancient hands
solid as eyes' night-sky.

It leaps from century
to hearts fallen apart,

crowned with a curse of dust
from Egyptian tombs.

It preserves ancient legs
which once walked eighty years.

And it will on our bed,
last as last, leaking day,

it will grant us, we wish,
its landscape as abyss.

*for Bob Dylan
